    More About Leah

Why did you decide to become a hairstylist?

When I realized that I could be as successful as a doctor or a lawyer, I decided to follow my childhood dreams to do hair.

How did you get your start in the industry?

I worked very hard seven days a week for more than a year. I worked at a salon in the Philadelphia casino and a salon in Meridian until I had enough clientele to open my salon in Meridian. A year after having my salon, I was asked to attend an Educator training course in Slidel, LA.

What iconic hairstyles do you love?

I don't have an iconic stylist that I love. I love to create a look that fits a person and shows their individuality.

    What inspires you?

Getting out into other salons, meeting new people and stylists, and calibrating with my mentors.

    Who inspires you?

My mentors - Shannon King, George Alderete, Gareth Palmer and Johnny Yurkew. I'm also inspired by all levels of hairdressers, not just the ones that are well-known. I learn something from someone every time I'm in a salon teaching or in a venue somewhere in the US. I love the ones that open up, step out of their box and share their learning experiences.

LeNicha Barmer, certified trained Hairdreams® specialist at Colorize Hair Studio in Ridgeland, Mississippi. Mississippi Magazine even published an article about Lenicha and her skills as a Volume+ Expert in 2016.

Hair extensions are going mainstream, embraced by celebrities and style magazines alike they’re firmly on the fashion conscious client’s radar. The latest secret of trendsetting celebrities and their stylists is Hairdreams Hair Creations. Gone are the days of the uncomfortable and unnatural looking hair extensions with the creation of the Hairdreams Laserbeamer Nano. “The absolutely natural look and the undetectable feel of the Nano bonds are a real ‘quantum leap’ in the world of hair lengthening and thickening. LeNicha Barmer no longer refer to them as “hair extensions”, but now calls it Hair Creations”.

Advantages of the new Nano hair bonds include outstanding durability, longer wearablility time, no more tangling, less time and money spent on hair care plus post-care is diminished to keep clients happier with their overall look and up-keep. LeNicha credits the training and latest in top notch technologies provided by Hairdreams with giving her the upper edge for her clients in Madison-Ridgeland and surrounding areas. “I am proud to offer the revolutionary, new Laserbeamer Nano for my guests and it excites me to know that I have the knowledge to help them receive the new Hair Creations they have always dreamed of thanks to Hairdreams.”

    More About Lenicha

Why did you decide to become a hairstylist?

A stylist has the ability to transform a person's appearance and, therefore, their life. When a woman feels beautiful, she can take on the world. I'm so thankful to have a profession that allows me to touch so many lives in a positive way.

How did you get your start in the industry?

My older sister is a hair stylist, and I would spend time in her salon during the summer. She would also take me with her to her hair shows. I marveled at the artists on-stage. Even as a child, I was interested in hair and makeup -  so, naturally, as I got older, I knew what I wanted to do. I started cosmetology school when I was 16 - while I was still in high school. There was never a question about what I was meant to do with my life.

What iconic hairstyles do you love?

I love everything! From the precision Five Point Cut by the legendary Vidal Sassoon to the sexy, undone, just-rolled-out-of-bed style of Brigitte Bardot. I love the jet-black pixie worn by Winona Ryder and the blonde, beachy waves of Blake Lively. Sofia Loren once said, "The right hairstyle can make a plain woman beautiful and a beautiful woman unforgettable."

    What inspires you?

Inspiration is everywhere. I have to admit, these days most of my inspiration comes from social media. We have access to so much information, so quickly. I enjoy seeing the work of other stylists, and even though most of my guests have a soft, natural look, I am fascinated by vivid colors and extreme texture. I am always trying to learn new, creative ways to expand my skill-set and better serve my clients.

    Who inspires you?

I have had many mentors who have inspired me over the years. There are too many to name, but I am most inspired by my clients and coworkers. They inspire me daily to be a better stylist and be a better person. Every day brings a new challenge, a new goal, and a new idea.

LINDA BATES Linda graduated from Shirley Little Academy in 1990 with a degree in Cosmetology. She began working as a hair stylist immediately and gained wonderful experience. More About Cassandra

Why did you decide to become a hairstylist?

I decided that I needed a career that allowed me the flexibility to work my own hours. And being able to help people through a skill, that many consider a luxury, has been a blessing!

How did you get your start in the industry?

I have had many jobs but nothing that I could say was exciting or rewarding. I always had an interest in the beauty scene, and I started out by just simply doing manicures on friends in my neighborhood. I enjoyed it so much, I decided to make it a career!

    What inspires you?

I'm personally inspired by everything around me - fine art, food, music, seasons, and more.

    Who inspires you?

My two daughters inspire me, because somehow, in this day and age when girls are pulled a thousand different directions about who they are and who they should be, these young ladies have managed to find and retain their own true identities despite what everyone else is doing.

I've been working since I was sixteen, and, most of the time, it was a job that I didn't particularly like, but they offered a paycheck. I was blessed enough to be allotted the opportunity to come and work with the amazing team here at Colorize Hair Studio.
